Itinerary

Day 1 Malaga Costa del Sol - Cordoba and return to Malaga Costa del Sol

Córdoba is located in a depression on the banks of the Guadalquivir and at the foot of the Sierra Morena. It is the third largest and most populous city in Andalusia after Seville and Malaga. In its old town we can still see buildings with architectural elements from when Córdoba was the capital of Hispania Ulterior in times of the Roman Republic, or of the Baetica province during the Roman Empire and the Caliphate of Córdoba during the Muslim era, whose leaders ruled much of the Iberian Peninsula. Excursion to Cordoba from Malaga and Costa del Sol.

Description of the visit

We will make a panoramic visit, starting by crossing the Roman Bridge and admiring the Torre de Calahorra before reaching the Old Town. Its historic center was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994. Ten years earlier, in 1984, the Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba had been. We will visit this monument (tickets and local guide included) which, without a doubt, was the most important in the entire Islamic West and one of the most amazing in the world. It is an ancient city, which has the second largest historic center in Europe. It is precisely here where most of the historic buildings of the city are located.

We will stop for 30 minutes in Lucena, known as the ‘Pearl of Sepharad’ with a great historical and artistic heritage. Here you can take the opportunity to have breakfast in Plaza Nueva, where you will find the Church of San Mateo, or take a walk around this Cordovan municipality, famous for its baroque style buildings, such as the Palace of the Counts of Santa Ana, the temple of San Juan Bautista or the Church of Santo Domingo. Once in Cordoba we will see the Roman Bridge of Cordobafamous for serving as a setting in the famous series Game of Thrones and we will start with with our official guide a one-hour walk through one of the most typical neighborhoods of this city, which has 4 inscriptions on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Jewish quarter of Cordoba. We will visit the most famous corner of the Jewish quarter, the Calleja de las Flores. The narrowest street of the city, the Calleja del pañuelo, the Synagogue of Cordoba, the only Synagogue that has been preserved in Andalusia after the expulsion of the Jews in 1492. We will continue until we reach one of the most important squares in the Jewish quarter, the Plaza Maimonides, with its characteristic monument to Maimonides, in honor of this famous Jewish philosopher and doctor from Cordoba. After this pleasant first tour, we will arrive at outside of the monument in the Patio de los Naranjos to start the guided tour of the interior of the Mosque-Cathedral of CordobaDuring one hour you will visit one of the most important monuments of the city, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. After the guided tour you will have free time in Córdoba where you can take the opportunity to stroll through the historic center of the city, where you will find the Alcazar of the Christian Kingsthe Corredera Squareto cross the Roman Bridge and enjoy the splendid views from the other side of the Guadalquivir, to visit the Calahorra Tower or to see andalusian patios in San Basilio neighborhood and try the typical cordovan cuisine such as flamenquines or salmorejo andaluz.
