What is the right clothing for paragliding in Morocco?
Don’t be fooled by the high temperatures that usually occur at midday in countries with desert climates. In Morocco, when it gets dark, it cools down quite a bit, especially in the Atlas Mountains area.
In addition, if you go in winter or in a cold season you may see snow.
Take a flight suit, winter and summer gloves, winter hat, summer cap, jackets, fleeces and thermal T-shirts. Also, don’t forget to check the weather forecast for the region you are going to for a week in advance.
Flying areas near Marrakech
Near Marrakech there are three very good flying areas. These are:
- Aguergour: It is an hour’s drive from Marrakech, about 50 kilometers. There you can even find a paragliding hostel to meet people to share your hobby. From the village the climb would be about 15 minutes. It is a slope and thermal flight.
- Ait-Barka: From Marrakech it takes an hour and a quarter, 60 kilometers. As it is a high altitude flight, a vehicle is needed to pick up the paraglider after landing and to reach the take-off point. It is also necessary to walk about 15 minutes after leaving the car on the mountain to access the take-off area.
- Ait-Ourir: It is 50 minutes from Marrakech and only half an hour from Air-Barka, so you can try both areas without problems in one trip. It is a thermo-plain flight with possible cross.
Flight zones near the beach
Marrakech is an inland area. If you feel like seeing the sea while flying, landing on a beach or visiting the coast of Morocco on your trip: try the following areas:
Col des Mines: It is located one hour from Tiznit, near Agadir and 1 kilometer from the coast. It is a rocky area with thermals. They say that the Tiznit area is a paradise for paragliders, but you must be careful with the antennas to the north. Take off a little further south. You can land near the village Idikl (29.725989, -8.850861).
Legzira: Perfect if you want to land on a beautiful beach. It is about 3 hours drive from Agadir or Col des Mines.
