Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Skoura – Dades Gorges:
Pick up at the Riad and departure from Marrakech via the Col Tichka pass, where we will cross the Atlas Mountains making stops to enjoy the magnificent views that the route has in store for us. Optional visit to a small cooperative of women who process argan oil, where you can learn how this precious product is obtained, as well as all the variety of products both culinary and beauty that gives us the argan fruit. We will continue on our way to Ouarzazate to visit the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, declared a World Heritage Site and eat, and in Ouarzazate you can visit, if you are interested, the film studios where many famous Holliwood movies have been filmed. Then we will find the village of Skoura, located in the heart of the valley of palm trees. You can stroll through the vast and labyrinthine oasis, whose lush vegetation surrounds beautiful secret kasbahs and you can also visit its kasbah. From here we will continue through the Valley of the Roses (famous for the cultivation of roses) to the Dades Gorges where we will spend the night. Dinner and overnight in hotel next to the Dades River.

Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Rissani – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi Desert:
After breakfast we will continue along the banks of Boulmane, where a road marked by kasbahs (fortresses or castles) and ksour (citadel), whose landscape is ocher, red and mauve. All around us we will find stony plateaus where dromedaries graze. After a journey full of ksour, oasis and palm trees we will arrive at Tineghir (where the spectacular Todra Gorges are located) perched at an altitude of 1,350 m and surrounded by a palm grove. Free time to stroll through the gorges. We continue to Erfoud (city of fossils and pass through Rissani (first imperial city), with its interesting market, where the nomads of the region come to sell their livestock and buy the tools they need. Finally we will arrive in Merzouga, in front of the high dunes of Erg Chebbi, then we will have a welcome tea at the hotel. Possibility to take an excursion in Quads or Buggies or rest a little before the start of the excursion on camels where we will go into the desert until we reach the camp of jaimas in the middle of the desert of high dunes, where we will spend the night. Dinner and party with drums surrounded by a bonfire.

Day 3: Merzouga – Alnif – Draa Valley – Marrakech:
We highly recommend that you get up early today so that you do not miss one of the best sunrises that exist from the great dunes of Erg Chebbi. After breakfast we will return by camel to the hotel. The rest of the day will be used to return to Ouarzazate through the Draa Valley, one of the longest rivers in Morocco, stopping to admire the adobe kasbahs and Berber villages that dot the route and the interesting geological formations of the Draa Valley. We will cross again the High Atlas Mountains with its beautiful landscapes. We will arrive in Marrakech around 20h30 approximately. End of our services.

How many people share the desert excursion?

The tour to the desert of Merzouga is done in 4×4 totally private for you and your companions.

Where are we going to sleep?

We give importance to rest, so during the trip you will stay in private rooms in hotels or riads comfortable and clean, with a local atmosphere and excellent location.

The accommodation in the desert is located in the middle of nature, are Berber tents camps with bed (superior category with shower and toilet, private for you).

How are lunches and dinners organized?

During the 3-day desert tour, breakfast and two dinners (one of them will be traditional and under the stars) are included.
The driver of the excursion will make stops at restaurants to order a la carte what you want.

What should I know before going to the desert?

Each day in the desert is a unique experience, witnessing incredible landscapes and being immersed in another culture.
In general the desert tour is a comfortable experience, but the roads are usually not in good condition and there are many hours in the vehicle (so it is good to bring your own bottle of water, some nuts or a piece of fruit). Recommended clothing is cool pants, comfortable shoes, hat, sunglasses, long sleeved shirts and some warm clothes for the evenings.

What time and where will I be picked up to go to the desert?

The driver of the 4×4 will come in the morning to your Riad / Hotel where you will be staying in Marrakech.
Upon return to Marrakech, we will drop you back at the same point of pick up.

How do I book our trip and are there any cancellation fees?

Will I be able to use my cell phone in Morocco to stay in touch with family and friends?

Rates can be very high outside Spain, so if you want to have internet, we recommend you to buy a SIM card in Morocco. The guide will be able to help you.

Once the reservation is made, what do I have to do?

Our reservation team will contact you to provide us with the address of the riad where you are staying. From your side, you don’t have to do anything else.

Local currency

In Morocco, the local currency is the dirham. Very easy to get right on the spot. Such as exchange offices, banks and even in hotel lobbies.

$ 1 equals about 10 dirharms. Depending on the official course of the day, this can vary downward or upward.

It is very common to accept the euro or the dollar in shops and establishments.

Withdrawing money from an ATM or paying directly with a credit card are perfectly valid activities.

Cancellation insurance

If you wish, you can take out trip cancellation insurance. This must be subscribed at the time of booking (never prior payment of the trip and contract), this insurance has no possibility of reimbursement and covers cancellation in case there has been an unforeseen event that prevents the trip. Cancellations are not covered without a duly documented justification or due to circumstances already existing at the time of booking (pre-existing illnesses, for example).

Some valid examples are the death of a first-degree relative, the hospitalization of the traveler or a first-degree relative, or unavoidable and unforeseen commitments, such as a court summons. The cancellation insurance would be subscribed with the INTERMUNDIAL / ARAG company, having to contact them directly in case of wanting to make use of it. The cost of insurance for each traveler depends on the cost of the trip per person (regardless of the number of days or the nature of the trip).
